Project Management

Project management encompasses all the skill sets needed to initiate, plan, execute, control and close projects, and has become increasingly important within the public and private sectors as shrinking budgets and pressures for faster and better outcomes compel organizations to pay close attention to how they do business. Similar skill sets are also required within the context of the ongoing operation of a facility or capability. Specialist fields such as risk management, configuration/documentation control, and quality/product assurance also fall within the umbrella of project management.

Calian sees requirements for project management from many of our customers, and in particular from large Canadian Government initiatives and operations that we support.

Our capability ranges from taking complete responsibility for the implementation of a project or the operations of a facility to supplying generalists or specialists to augment the customer's project management organization.
Examples include:
  • providing a variety of project management and technical specialists to the Project Management Office for the Maritime Helicopter Project
  • providing end to end constructive simulation training for the Canadian Army (including the project management required to plan and execute numerous training exercises per year for the Directorate of Land Synthetic Environments for the Department of National Defence)
Calian repeatedly demonstrates that we can supply the right people to meet a customer's exacting requirements. Within the context of project management, there is often a requirement for knowledge or experience in a related field, such as engineering, facility operations or military procurement, or for specific and expert skills in a particular sub-discipline, such as risk management or project scheduling. It is for these hard-to-find people that Calian's recruiting capabilities are especially valuable. Furthermore, Calian's personnel align themselves with the customer's approach to project management, and because they are not tied to a proprietary methodology or toolset, but are experts in their fields, they can provide unbiased advice to customers wishing to establish or improve their project management operations.
